October Book of the Month - Austenland by Shannon Hale

I thought we would start the book club off with a fun, easy read. I am a romantic at heart who LOVES Pride and Prejudice. This book pokes fun, in an awesome way, at all of us girls who love Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy.

Please feel free to comment anytime you want to talk about where you are in the book or anything else. I have also made you all administrators of the blog so that you can post when your book of the month comes. Hopefully we can have a good conversation each month and read a lot of good books!

I was hoping to put a book out at the first of each month, and by the last week of the month start to really talk about it. I understand you all have busy lives, so if you don't finish in time don't worry! Just contribute your thoughts on what you were able to read, or if you hate the book, do not hesitate to say so! We all have different tastes, so if you can't get through a book, no worries! Happens all the time! Well, I guess that's it. I hope you enjoy Austenland!

  2. In honor of the book, I have watched the movie three times. Okay, so I know that the book has nothing to do with the movie, but it's getting in the mood. Lib here I come- I have 15 days left to read it!!

  3. I got this book from the Library on Thursday of last week and finished it last night(sorry Jen I told you I got it on monday) but I have to say that I really enjoyed it. But I am one who loves the Pride and Prejudice movies (especially when Collin Firth plays Darcy). I love how it was such an easy read and it was fun to read about her experience. I wish that she could have developed the characters better though. I realize that most of the characters were actors and couldn't reveal anything about their modern lives but it would have been nice to at least have found out a little bit more about Henry at the end. It was fun though to imagine more what it would have been like to live in that era. I think that it would have been really boring. I don't know how the ladies didn't die of boredom and it makes me glad that I live in this day and age. Thanks for recommending this book Hayley. I really enjoyed it.

  4. So I still don't have the book (thanks alisha!) but I will get it done before the next week...honest! BUT- I read "darcy" when I was in the hospital w/ Dane. It's Pride and Predjudice from Darcy's point of view (and aren't we all a little bit in love with him...sort of...when he's in the movie?)

  7. Don't worry if you did not read the book. October was a VERY crazy month. Having broke my foot, my last thought was books. So, lets start over, shall we? I thought we could read one of Stephani's. How about this month we read: The Grange House. Is that cool?

  12. This was a great read. I was a little sad I hadn't read any of the Jane Austen books, I would of understood a little more but I loved it anyway. It was alike a "Take me away, Calgon" time of reading. Oh, to be young, beautiful, and in a romantic adventure. Best to you all, Mom
